Today at Mobius 2008, two Zune team presenters demonstrated a Galaga-like game on the Zune and from what we can tell by the pic it looks great! [more after the jump]

According to Geek.com the graphics were far and away better than anything they saw on the iPod.

the game graphics were much better than the games available on the iPods today.

Good news for all of us just waiting to get our hands on a good version of Galaga for our Zune.

Get Your Zunecast - Podcast in Zune Marketplace Faster

Everyone knows that getting into Zune Marketplace can help increase the listenership of ones Podcast/Zunecast and they probably also know how to “Suggest a Podcast link” to Zune Marketplace through Zune Software but did you know that subscribing to your own podcast and getting your friends to do the same will speed up the process exponentially?

It will! So the next time you suggest a podcast, if you hope to see it included in the Zune Marketplace quickly you should subscribe and get a few acquaintances to follow as well.

Best Buy Advertises Zune Right Alongside iPod

This is a bit off topic for our site but I had to mention it. I cant recall ever seeing Zune advertised in Best Buy’s weekly sales paper, either online or otherwise. However, while searching through their online version I noticed page 16 and at first saw the iPod classic ad, it’s the 80GB and the price is $249.99, and then I saw the iPod Nano, I don’t even want to talk about the Nano. But then I saw two ads that were at least equal in size to the iPod ads (you can clearly see how much larger the screens are) and Zune’s look so much better than their Apple rivals. Do you see what I mean? Even a brief comparison of the Nano versus the flash-based 8GB Zune shows how much better a value it is and that’s without going into the players innate superiority.

Both players have 8GB HD’s but Zune costs $20 less, with iPod you get a free Jam Jacket, a $21.99 value, with Zune you get a free Zune Dock! A $50.99 value, which one would you rather buy?

The point here is that this is just the tip of the iceberg (IMHO) when it comes to the increase of what we can expect to see. Now I believe this is when we’re really going to start to see the Zune make it’s move.

Zune Software Customizer

Our good friend over at http://www.mjefferson.net has just released the new Zune Software Customizer Version 2.5 ( not the real version as it’s set to correspond with the actual Zune Software release version), with several bug fixes and 6 new colors added along with the deletion of two unused colors. [more after the jump]

This software is great for setting custom colors, fonts, backgrounds etc. There’s also a column choose and it allows the ability reorder columns to the users choosing, it also features a new background browser and lets you set your own custom themes. The author developed this product based on ZuneBoards and the Original Background Hack which can be found here.

Hack Zune Software to Show Marketplace Outside US

As many of our non-US readers may already know, if you live outside the US, and have updated your Zune software to the latest version 2.5, then you no longer have access to view Marketplace. Instead, all you will see is There is no Marketplace”, this is however very easy to workaround, if you don’t mind tricking Windows into believing you’re an American (don’t get upset with me…I’m talking to you France!).

Here’s a very simple step by step guide.

In XP click “Start” > “Control Panel” > “Regional and Language Options” > Regional Options Tab, at the bottom scroll to “United States” and click “OK”. That’s it!

In Vista its pretty much the same steps, just Search for “regional” and you’ll find it. Now, all you have to do is the reverse when you need you OS to recognize your true location.

Sorry We Have Been Away for a Bit

I just wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for the past couple week’s of absence from writing anything new on our site here. However, due to some moderate illness we were forced to take that fortnight off. Great news though, we’re back! And, in full force. Hopefully we can resume right were we left off, scouring the internet to help you find some of the internet’s greatest deals and free stuff for your Zune player.

We know a lot has happened during our time away, including Microsoft’s release of Zune 2.5 software and some great new activity regarding XNA for gamers. Once we get up to speed and start our investigative research we expect to come back very shortly.

Remove DRM Free Software Download

Today we found some free software that can remove the DRM .wmv, .asf, .wma for Windows Media Player 9, 10 and 11. However, this software

can’t crack DRM license. You must have VALID license files on your harddrive

This Only works on individualized DRM file, requires Windows Media Player (WMP) 9, 10 or 11 beta 1 and 2, but has no official support for 11 final release yet!

We have tested this software and it works with ease. If this is something you’ve been looking for to remove the DRM from your media, we suggest you pick it up.

This software is FairUse4WM 1.3 which is a GUI version of drmdbg (DRM removal tool). You can download it here or read more about it here.

Free Download DVD to Zune Ripper

This is the Abcc DVD to Zune, iPod, iPhone, 3GP MP4 Ripper. This is freeware from our friends at Abcc Software.

It allows you to encode or rip DVD video to MP4 or 3GP and to extract DVD audio to MP3 (which can can in very handy for anyone wanting to take a track from a music video etc.),

The installation is very fast, the file size just over 10MB which also includes a codec pack as shown in the screencap below. [more after the jump]

We found the software’s interface to be sleek and stylish but to our disappointment we discovered that you would not have the option to batch covert as that was only possible using the Shareware version with limitations or the option to “Order Now”. Of course this is something we would advise against since there are many opportunities to get actual freeware online for doing this.

Anyway, we selected “Use the Free Version”. [more after jump]

As you can see, even with the free version its still pretty feature rich. Albeit slow, perhaps too slow for our taste.

The bottom line here is that you have the option of using it as a freeware program, however, it’s not fully functional (we hate that), and even worse, it was slower than other free software we’ve found that can do the same thing.

Rip DVDs to Zune, PC and More

This is exciting, today only (allegedly) Aplus DVD Ripper as their “Free Commercial Program” of the day to download absolutely free of charge. This normally sells for $40 so this isn’t your normal, run of the mill software that might be offered for free elsewhere. You have to hurry though because it’s only available for today April, 17th, 2008.

As you can see the software looks pretty cool and feature rich. We haven’t had the opportunity to try this yet as we’re just finding out about it and reporting. If you have tried this software and have an opinion please drop us a line or leave a comment.
