Mozilla FirefoxNo word yet on when the exact date is but Mozilla Firefox 3 is coming, and, they hope to set a new Guinness World Record in the process. Mozilla, developers of Firefox have been (it’s not truely a grassroots project) initiating an effort to “spread the word” to get people ready for the release date of Firefox 3 with the hopes of making the record books for most downloads in a single day.

This, would be even easier if that day were somehow made available to the public by now, but as of this posting Mozilla still has the “Big Browser that could” as a Release Candidate 1 Sneak Peak edition, word has it however, that the release is just weeks if not days away. Now it’s time for me to rant a bit… I like Firefox, I love the tabbed interface, I’ve been a fan and user since it’s inception but I have to say I have some complaints. Being an active blogger and website developer I have a need to stay in touch and informed and thus a need to keep dozens of active tabs opened at more time is a necessity for me, with Firefox this is a troubling issue, why? Because it’s a resource hog! No doubt about it, if you have 10 or more open tabs (especially over a period of time) the footprint of Firefox is astronomical.

Now for my rant to subside… TheĀ  difficulties with Firefox’s handling of webpages appears to have been a top priority with the development team for this newest incarnation (according to inside sources), so hopefully I wouldn’t have to worry about adding 2 more gigabytes of RAM just to get through it (oh yeah, I forgot to rant about Adobe Dreamweaver’s footprint too - well maybe later). So, with that being said, let’s all get ready because it’s coming to a Download Day near you!
